Working with Tamara Poles was a game changer for me. As a science communicator, I thought I knew my stuff, but Tamara took it to another level. She’s a pro at making you rethink how you engage with your own research and she really made me fall in love with my work all over again. Tamara gets you to see the bigger picture – why we do what we do and how we can make it accessible to everyone. She broke down the myth that science communication oversimplifies research and showed me that it’s all about sharing complex ideas in an engaging way. If we can humanize research, we can bring in a whole new wave of science enthusiasts to help solve the world’s biggest problems.

I was a part of the inaugural IMPACTS group and it was definitely a life changing experience, in large part due to Tamara’s guidance and support. Working with Tamara led me to finally formalize and systematize all the science communication topics I had intuited beforehand. I quickly became a trusted voice in my community on science communication and how to make science presentations more impactful. And these skills not only took me to the end of my dissertation, but are also foundational for my current role in technical sales.
